“So this, I believe, is the central question upon which all creative living hinges: Do you have the courage to bring forth the treasures that are hidden within you?” – Elizabeth Gilbert, Big Magic
Here is my Number 2 book recommendation for all you creative people out there. If you are feeling overwhelmed, under-valued, and questioning whether or not you should be embracing you creative passions out there in the world, you need to read this book. It is essential to kick start your mindset into the realization that you have all of the power you need within yourself to move forward and live the most creative life possible.
Elizabeth Gilbert shares her own personal anecdotes about being a successful creative, through hardships, successes, and stories about when it is the right time to let go. This book lights a fire in your heart and your brain and makes you want to take charge of your life even if it means taking the smallest step, which as she elaborates, may be the biggest step to create change.
Gilbert allows you to humble yourself and seek reflection with quotable lines such as, “Own your disappointment, acknowledge it for what it is, and move on.” and forces the reader to think of the world as a much more connected space by stating, “Ideas are a disembodied energetic life-form. They are completely separated from us but capable of interacting with us.”
All in all, this book is a must-read for creatives and pretty much any human being that would like to feel fulfilled in their life but is not opening themselves up enough to who they are, when they are, where they are.
Here is a link to Elizabeth Gilbert’s website where you can purchase your copy (which I once again highly recommend) or learn more about the author. I think the only way to stay connected with what you want to do with your life is to surround yourself by other people who are succeeding and acquiring the same goals.
Keep your magic big.
